Small Groups Ministry – Goals & Objectives

Fiscal Year Sept. 2006 – 2008

Pastor Phil Sommerville

First Draft 6/9/06

Ministry Vision:

The vision for Small Groups Ministry at Bayside Church is to develop a ministry where everyone at Bayside has the opportunity to easily find a group of like minded people who will become their friends and help them grow and live godly lives in daily activities, struggles, work, and decisions. This is a vision for a broadly diverse ministry where people are offered a variety of choices based on stage of life, spiritual growth need (like new believers, Bible study, doctrine, habits), similar interests, or felt need (like marriage, parenting, finance, recovery).

Further, the vision for Small Groups Ministry at Bayside Church is to become an army of service for God to Bayside and the community.

Finally, the vision for Small Groups Ministry at Bayside Church is to become an increasingly interdependent ministry working with and servicing all of the adult ministries at Bayside Church in the growth and development of their small groups.

Ministry Goals:

1. Goal:

To see the participation of adults involved in small groups grow by 20% to a total number of 4,200 participants (all numerical goals and objectives will increase if we decide to do the 40 Days of Community as an all-church campaign)

Strategy:

    1. Meet with other ministries to see what types of support they need from us and make sure we can provide the level of support they need by September, 06

    2. Hire a part-time Coordinator who will oversee the recruitment of new leaders, the promotion of groups, the organization of Connection Events, and the connecting of new people to groups by September, 06

    3. Recruit 50 new small group leaders throughout the year (at least 25 by September) for our ministry and other ministries

    4. Hold 2-3 Courtyard Connection events. One in September, one in January and possibly one after Easter

    5. Create a Small Groups Catalog to distribute to every Baysider who attends services Sept. 9 & 10, produce an updated list every month, and maintain an always current group search engine on the website

    6. Double the participation in Alpha, Crown and Financial Peace University groups

2. Goal:

To work with the other adult ministry pastors to develop a spiritual growth path by September to be “test-driven” by small group leaders this year and then refined and prepared for launch to all small group members in Sept. 07

Strategy:

    1. Have Spiritual Growth Path defined by September, 06

    2. Identify spiritual growth options available in each ministry and where they fit into the Path by September, 06

    3. Create a Spiritual Growth Assessment and Growth Planner by September, 06

    4. Launch a Leadership Development program for small group leaders in Sept.

      1. Plan will offer monthly growth development options on two tracks: small group leadership skill and personal spiritual growth. Leaders will be asked to use the assessment tool and choose at least 3 options during the year with at least one from each track. This will be voluntary and goal is 50% participation in first year

      2. Meet twice with other pastors to get feedback on the effectiveness of the program

      3. Survey leaders in May about effectiveness of program and suggestions for improvement

      4. Use feedback information to improve program during the summer of 07 for implementation to all small group members in fall of 07

3. Goal:

To have all small groups, that have existed for 6 months or more, and are under the supervision of the Small Groups Ministry, be involved in a ministry project

Strategy:

    1. Emphasize service at all small group leader trainings

    2. Work with other ministries to maintain and distribute lists of ministry opportunities

    3. Follow-up with small group leaders at least 3 times during the year to see if they have done a project and encourage them to do one if they have not
